General information on auditioning for our main stage shows

If you or your teen is interested in acting in one or more of our main-stage productions there are a few things you need to know:

All actors must be 13-18 years, currently enrolled in, or have completed “LEVEL I Acting” (School Day Classes), “Enrich the Character” (Tuesday Night series of classes) or have participated in one of our “Summer Bootcamps”. You will need to email for a timeslot to audition which we will announce when these dates come available,  Watch for our posts on Facebook (be sure to LIKE US so you stay current) and our Newsletter (make sure you are on our mail list. Add Link to mail list sign up here) Other ways to prepare? Our season of plays are based on literature, so go ahead and read them now so you are prepared. We also offer several 1-day AUDITION workshops throughout the year to help you prepare.  Take classes…remember acting isn’t based solely on talent, but as in any art there are important skills to learn and practice so that you can always do your best.

How to set up an audition time for Romeo and Juliet

  1. Choose the day you wish to audition (either December 7 or Dec 11, 2017). Remember the earlier you sign up the more likely I can honor which date you wish to audition .
  2. Send email to cbarwineck@gmail.com with the date you wish to audition. If you do not have a preference for which day you audition, then say that.
  3. Once I receive your audition I will chooses the time slot you will be scheduled for (either 4:00-5:30 OR 5:30-7:00 – expect to stay for the full 1.5 hours) and monologues for you to prepare to complete your audition.
  4. Be sure to keep the “callback” date open (December 14 from 4:00-8:00) in case you will be asked to attend.

 .

How should I prepare for this audition?

  1. Read the play (you can do this online OR from the library) I STRONGLY suggest that you get an audio version of the script and follow along while you listen. REMEMBER Shakespeare plays were meant to be seen and heard…NOT READ. But DO NOT watch any version of this play on video, tv, etc
  2. Once you get the monologues locate them in the script so that you know to whom you are speaking.
  3. Get a side by side* version from the library or online (No Fear Shakespeare is fine, although not the best) read through the scene using the modern version so that you know what is going on so you can figure out what your character wants.

*The side-by-side we will be using for the show will be Access to Shakespeare, ROMEO AND JULIET Lorenz Educational Publishers

  1. You can enroll in the 3-hour audition workshop: Audition for Shakespeare on December 5 from 4:30-7:30. Cost is $35. Go to cbproductions.org and look at 1-Day Workshops. (This workshop isNOT a requirement to audition.)
