Meet Our Teaching Artists

Carla#2 Carla Barwineck’s teaching career began in college where she worked on a class project to integrate theater into the school curriculum. Her love for teaching began at that moment. In the early 1980’s Ms Barwineck made Minneapolis/St Paul her home and began work as a professional actress and director/choreographer and worked as a teacher at Lakeshore Players in White Bear Lake. She was contracted by MINNESOTA ALLIANCE FOR ARTS IN EDUCATION (MAAE) for a year-long project to travel the state of Minnesota to research and compile Creative Dramatics in the Classroom, A Handbook for Teachers which was distributed to schools. In 1984 she was hired as the Director of Education for Chimera Theatre, the largest community theatre in the Twin Cities. In 1987 she founded SteppingStone Theatre for Youth Development in St Paul and worked as the Executive/Artistic Director for 10+ years. Ms Barwineck is responsible for starting the Acting Program at YEAH’s Academy where she continues to offer full year acting classes during the school day.
